The Journey

Writer: Wendy ApplebyWendy Appleby

I opened this studio, this healing space almost a year ago. I have grown a lot and learned so much in that year. As we prepare to enter winter I'm feeling the need to slow down, ground and integrate. Nature is my guide. She is doing the same thing. I will follow her lead.

I love to reflect. On the journey, outward and inward. Where I am going, where I've been and where I find myself right now. As I think ahead to what I'd like this space to be I am drawn to simplify. Clay and horses. Those are the things that ground me and have had a deep and profound effect on my life and healing journey.

My connection to my birth mama (in the spirit world now) brought me to the clay over 2 years ago. She began working with clay in her late 40's. It is not only a grounding and creative act but one of connection, to my mammers, to the great mother, to the Earth. Taking a part of the soil and shaping it into something beautiful and perhaps useful is a magical thing!

Horses. Oh those precious ones. They are powerful healers and messengers. They remind us of who we are and why we came. They have a way of opening up doors that we have closed up tight. They are here to help us transform and connect to our power and our purpose. They transmute intense emotions; in my case, deep grief. They bring us into the present moment, the here and now. It is what they know. They have to be so present, for survival. So do we.

So, I'm stripping it down to those two things: clay + horses. Earth and sky. Here and there. Grounding and connecting to all that is. Bare feet on the earth, hands stretched to the sky. I'll meet you there.
